Novovoronezh II: Novovoronezh Holds Public Consultations
On May 23, 2012 in the city of Novovoronezh of the Voronezh region, there have been held public consultations on the preliminary draft of materials of the environmental impact assessment (EIA) of Novovoronezh II Units 1 and 2.
The participants were the representatives of the authorities, public and environmental organizations, supervision bodies, Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, JSC Atomenergoproyekt, scientists, local and regional mass media, as well as any willing.
NvNPP II is being constructed according to the developed by JSC Atomenergoproyekt project NPP-2006 with the use of the pile assembly VVER-1200 with the capacity of 1,200 MW. This nuclear power plant is of a new generation, the evolutionary development of the project NPP-92 with the VVER-1000 model reactor. It took into account the technical solutions adopted for the project NPP-92 in consideration of the design experience of Koodankulam NPP in India, operation experience of the existing units B-320, commissioning of Tianwan NPP in China. Also taken into consideration were the recommendations of IAEA and European Utility Requirements (EUR).
The researches carried out by the specialists of the leading Russian scientific organizations for the justification of the environmental safety of the project, showed that the radiation impact on the ecosystem surrounding NvNPP II satisfied the requirements of the regulatory documents, and could not cause any radiation effects. The adopted project decisions ensure, in addition, the full radiation protection of critical ecosystems for the postulated design and beyond design basis accidents.
ТWith the construction of two new power units, the city received the additional impetus to the development, or in other words, the second birth,У noted Head of the Urban District Administration ТNovovoronezh CityУ Sergey Chestikin. ТNow, an active design and construction of facilities in the Northern community, and reconstruction of the old city district take place. With the construction of the power units, the city saw its future and gained confidence in the tomorrow.У
A month before the public consultations, the EIA materials were placed in public places of Novovoronezh, as well as on the website www.new-voronezh.ru of the Urban District Administration ТNovovoronezh CityУ.
Within another month, it will be available for anyone to make suggestions.
