Kursk NPP: turbine generator No.8 has been shut down for repair

On March 14, 2011 turbine generator No.8 of the fourth Kursk NPP power unit was shutdown for the necessary repair of the turbine regulatory system drain line section in accordance with the filed application.

The turbine generator was shut down in accordance with the requirements of the safe operation process procedure.

This event is preliminary classified as a zero level (below - scale) event by the International Nuclear Events Scale (INES), i.e. has no impact on the plant and the personnel safety.

There are no violations of limits and conditions of safe operation of Kursk NPP power units.

At present Kursk NPP operates power units Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 4. Their capacity corresponds to the dispatch schedule.

The radiation background at the plant and the adjacent territory corresponds to the normal operation of power units and does not exceed the natural background values.

Kursk NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located on the left bank of the Seym River, 40 kilometers to the south-west of Kursk city. The NPP operates four power units with pressurized-tube reactors with total capacity of 4 million KW. The power units were connected to the united energy system of the country in 1976-1985. Kursk NPP is the largest power generating source in the Central Black Earth Belt.
