Kursk NPP Holds Meeting of Inter-Agency Task Force on Preparation for Integrated Emergency Response Exercise-2012

On August 9, 2012 as part of the preparation to carry out a scheduled integrated emergency response exercise (KPU-2012) at Kursk NPP and in Kurchatov city, there was held a meeting of inter-agency task force of Kurchatov evacuation commission.

The task force included representatives of Kursk NPP, Directorate for Civil Defense and Emergency Situations of Kurchatov, intermunicipal department ТKurchatovskyУ of the Ministry of the Interior of Russia, regional office Nr.125 of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of Russia, municipal services, organizations and institutions.

The preparation for KPU-2012 scheduled for October 3-5 of the current year, was discussed at the meeting. Information of Kursk NPP and messages of organizations and agencies, involved for the exercise, were heard on this issue.

It was noted that the preparation of all participants for KPU-2012 will be checked during exercises scheduled for August and September. 

ТHabitants of the city Kurchatov have no reasons to worry because of the exercises,У noted Deputy Head of the city and Chairman of the city evacuation commission, Irina Golovina. Р ТIХm sure that the exercise will be carried out at a high professional level. With audio and other signals, and movement of special vehicles, the citizens should remain calm and undertake no actions.У

KPU-2012 will be held in cooperation with the team of emergency assistance to nuclear power plants (OPAS) of the Concern Rosenergoatom and involving the forces and aids of EMERCOM of RF. During the exercises there will be practiced preparedness for actions at a conditional technological and radiation accident at the nuclear power plant. Also the practiced will be an interaction between the involved agencies of the emergency response, practical skills of Kursk NPP staff in implementation of measures on organization and carrying out works on localization and elimination of emergency situations including those in protective shelter facilities and evacuation of the plantХs staff. Also a random partial population evacuation of the 5 km area is expected.

As on August 13, Kursk NPP operates the power units No.1, 2 and 3. The units operate at the capacity rated by the dispatch schedule. The power unit No.4 of Kursk NPP has been stopped since August 10 due to remedial maintenance at Turbine Generator 7.

The radiation background in the area of Kursk NPP and the adjacent territory corresponds to the level of power unitsХ normal operation and does not exceed the natural environmental values.
