Kursk NPP Conducted Environmental Clean-up Action on Coastal Strip of Cooling Pond

On May 12, 2012 in the framework of Days of Protection from environmental hazards, Kursk NPP held an environmental event on cleaning up the coastal strip of the cooling pond.

Six teams, formed of representatives of Kursk NPP departments, cleaned up several kilometers of the coastal strip of the technologic reservoir of the nuclear power plant from domestic and other debris.

ТIn the framework of Days of Protection from environmental hazards,У informed the Chief of the Environment Protection Department of Kursk NPP Alexey Trubnikov, Тfor the fifth time we go out to clean up the territory. ItХs gratifying that each year the amount of debris collected decreases Р from 16 trucks of debris in 2008 to 3 last year, and 1 this year. In other words, the attitude of the citizens to maintaining the order and cleanliness under the influence of environmental promotional events of Kursk NPP is gradually changing.У
Alexey Trubnikov also noted that similar environmental actions were important for ensuring reliable operation of power units as they helped to keep the compliance of water quality in the reservoir of the nuclear power plant with the regulatory requirements.

At the present time, Kursk NPP operates the power units No.2, 3 and 4. The units work at the capacity rated by the dispatch schedule. Since April 3 the power unit No.1 has been being under the scheduled midlife maintenance.

The radiation background in the area of Kursk NPP and the adjacent territory corresponds to the level of power unitsХ normal operation and does not exceed the natural environmental values.

On line detailed data on the radiation environment near nuclear power plants in Russia and other nuclear facilities are provided on website russianatom.ru
