Kola NPP: inspection of fire preparedness has been over

On May 13, 2011 the internal inspection of preparedness for fire hazardous season of 2011 was accomplished. In the course of the inspection the specialists of Inspection Department and the nuclear plant fire safety group studied the basic fire prevention measures ordered by Rosatom State Corporation and their own plan of organization and technical events for the approaching summer period.

The inspection showed a smooth and full-scale accomplishment of all the supervising and regulating bodiesХ orders as well as the orders and instructions of Rosatom State Corporation and the operating organization Р Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC.

In particular, as a part of training for the fire hazardous season fire fighting breaks were constructed at the enterprise and a fire line* was created along the perimeter of the industrial site. As agreed with the Committee on Forestry of Murmansk region, full-scale works on the clearance of wood were performed at Kola NPP.

Regular trainings with the staff of fire fighting unit No. 6 on KNPP protection and with the plant life-saving group on the problems of forest fire suppression in the conditions of water inefficiency are conducted. The actions of the duty guard of the fire fighting unit at the industrial site facilities and in Polyarnye Zori are developed. The next training with the participation of employees from fire fighting units Nos. 6 and 61, the staff of Atom-Okhrana and the nuclear plant will be held on May 18. In the course of that training the actions in the conditions of a creeping fire on the territory adjacent to Kola NPP will be developed.

Everyday pedestrian and automobile guards of fire fighting unit No. 6 and the plant security service employees, aimed at maintaining control over the plant territory, will become a special safety measure. The guards of the kind will function within all the fire hazardous period. Also the supervisory committee checked the state of fire fighting unit No. 6 machinery and noted its complete equipment level and readiness for summer season.

According to the inspection results, the committee made a conclusion of absolute fulfillment of all the scheduled events and the nuclear plant readiness for fire hazardous period of 2011.

*Fire line is a line of definite width on the ground surface, cleaned from sylvan burnable materials or processed with tillage outfits, or other, to solid mineral soil layer.
