Kola NPP: Visit of Trade Union Leaders

Representatives of the trade union committee of Paks Nuclear Power Plant (Hungary) and shop-floor union organization of Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation visited Polyarnye Zori in order to establish friendly relations. Laszlo Lyurents, a leader of the trade union organization, presented the Hungarian nuclear power plant, and Valery Kuzmin presented Rosatom.

During the short tour the guests got acquainted with the satellite city of Kola NPP, were at the Public Information Centre of the plant, where they visited the expositions.  The sightseers were told about the history of construction and operation of the first nuclear power plant in the Arctic Circle.

Then the guests visited the significant social and sports facilities of Polyarnye Zori constructed with the direct participation of Kola NPP. The reconstruction held at the central stadium of the city stirred the trade union leadersХ great interest. The Hungarian nuclear engineers proposed to hold next year a friendly match between the football teams ТPaksУ and ТKolatomУ. The just reconstructed sanatorium-preventorium, where new medical equipment had been installed, made the greatest impression on the guests.

The guests also visited the Ice Stadium, which was getting ready for the opening of the new sports season. Then they viewed the construction site of the children park being built to the 40th anniversary of Kola NPP. The colleagues were presented the nearby Holy Trinity Church and kindergarten ТSolnyshkoУ.

In the final part of the visit, the guests visited the ski complex ТSalmaУ, trout farm and Personnel Training Point -2. The excursion to the trout farm caused a really keen interest of the guests. Especially a lot of questions were related to the nurseries of sturgeon stocked as an experiment.

According to the guests, they liked the mountain itself with its slopes and hotel complex on Salma. Mr. Lyurents, an amateur of mountain skiing, noted that Salma was highly competitive with the European slopes.

Kola NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located 200 km to the south of Murmansk on the bank of Lake Imandra. It produces about 60% of electricity of Murmansk region. Currently, the plant operates 4 power units with VVER-type reactors. Each reactor has capacity of 440 MW. Kola NPP supplies power for Murmansk region and Karelia.
