Kola NPP: Polyarnye Zori Team New Wave Defeats Top Rank Floorball Club IBK-Alta from Northern Norway

Polyarnye Zori hosted an Open Championship in Floorball*. The competition was called ТThe Northern PowerУ. The organizers were the Sports Committee of the Murmansk region and trade union of Kola NPP. 

The competition was attended by four teams from the Murmansk region and the top rank team of the northern division of Norway, IBK-Alta. The local region was represented by the team ТStep by StepУ from Monchegorsk, selected team from Apatity and two teams from Polyarnye Zori Р Kolatom and New Wave.

The tournament was held in a circular pattern. The guests from Norway confidently defeated three Kola Floorball clubs, but the meeting with the team New Wave from Polyarnye Zori made the guests feel respect to the Russian Floorball.

One of the top rank teams of the Northern Norway lost in the game with the team from Polyarnye Zori by a score of 3:1.
The team New Wave is mostly represented by Fire Brigade 6 on protection of Kola NPP. As the team leader, an engineer of the Fire Security Department of Kola NPP, Vyacheslav Pukhlov, said after the match, the Norwegians were highly qualified. ТThey are very technical. I am very surprised that we could defeat them,У he said. 

In his turn, Chief Referee of the competition Р an International Referee and Secretary General of the Floorball Federation of Russia, Konstantin Zhukovsky - believes that the floorball enthusiasts from Polyarnye Zori may confidentially compete in the major league of Russia: ТMaybe it is still early for them to fight for the first place, but the team may take a well-deserved place in the middle of the standings.У

*Floorball Р a variety of ball hockey played indoors. Officially it is a new kind of sports; its origin date is April 12, 1986, place of origin Р the Swedish town of Huskvarna. But long before, floorball was known as innebandy in Sweden, salibandy in Finland, floorhockey in the USA and Canada, and unihockey in a number of the European countries.

Kola NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located 200 km to the south of Murmansk on the bank of Lake Imandra. It produces about 60% of electricity of Murmansk region. Currently, the plant operates 4 power units with VVER-type reactors. Each reactor has capacity of 440 MW. Kola NPP supplies power for Murmansk region and Karelia.
