Kola NPP: Murmansk Region Hosts Open Tournament ТAtomic RegattaУ for Fourth Time

On July 29 the traditional ТAtomic RegattaУ, which this year was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, finished the race in the category Тloser-startУ in the rural inhabited locality Nivsky.

The ТAtomic RegattaУ program included the slalom and relay race on kayaks, two- and four-seat catamarans, and rescue work on the water. Difficult for many athletes was the discipline Тkayak-crossУ, in which it was necessary to breast the tape avoiding touching opponents with own paddles, and it was necessary to touch the checkpoints-markers with a hand. Here the strongest was Ruslan Abbyasov from Volgodonsk (Rostov NPP).

In the whitewater and slalom-kayak the ТgoldУ went to the representative of Rostov NPP, Pavel Petrakov. In the two-seat catamaran slalom, there were no equal to the Karelian team: Sergey and Roman Kalyashovs. Also the representatives of Karelia were the best in the relay race and giant slalom. In the four-seat catamaran slalom the undisputed leaders were the employees of Kursk NPP: Nikolay Alipov, Andrey Mironenko, Vladimir Kuznetsov and Nikolay Kulikov. In the discipline ТsafetyУ the best results were shown by the watermen from the team ТHorizonУ (Kovdor town).

Also during the tournament, there was held a song contest, in which both the jury and audience were conquered by the interpreter from Murmansk TPP team.

Following the results of the three-day race, in the team classification the first place was won by the Karelian team (Petrozavodsk). The second were Rostov NPP watermen (Volgodonsk), and the third were the athletes from Kursk nuclear power plant (Kurchatov).

In 2012 the open tournament in water sports was transferred from Kitsa river near Murmansk to Niva river (south of Kola peninsula). Especially for the ТAtomic RegattaУ, the hydraulic power industry workers of the hydroelectric power chain of Niva HPPs opened the draft directing the stream of water to the old river-bed. The duty of water made up 100 m3/sec, which was a huge plus for the water races.

The water way was arranged beforehand. The organizers and volunteers of the regatta set up tows with ТgatesУ and arranged the camp for the race participants.

At the tournament, the nuclear industry was represented by the teams of Kursk, Volgodonsk, Leningrad and Balakovo nuclear power plants. The regatta hosting team - Kola NPP Р was represented by the water activities club of the station ТVODInoyУ. Also, the representative of Baltic NPP under construction (the Kaliningrad region) arrived to the regatta. Athletes-watermen from the Murmansk region and Karelia joined the nuclear industry workers.

*In the rural inhabited locality Nivsky, there operates the oldest hydro power plant Niva HPP-2, included into the power chain of Niva HPPs (Kola branch, JSC TGK-1).
