Kola NPP: International Children's Creative Project In Arms of Nature has started in Polyarnye Zori

On 12 April, 2017, the International Children's Creative Project In Arms of Nature has started in Kola NPP information center in the town of Polyarnye Zori, Murmansk Oblast.

It is a photo contest aimed at the youngsters. Through videoconferencing Р which unites the sites of all Russian nuclear power plants Р young photographers living near NPPs received an opportunity to interact with each other, as well as with the project coordinator Р famous Hungarian naturalist and photo artist Vince Balint.

As the Head of the Public and Governmental Affairs Department of Rosenergoatom Concern Svetlana Churilova noted, the contest has started in Polyarnye Zori for a reason, ТThis is the choice of Vince Balint himself; he loves Murmansk Oblast and its unique nature. In addition, the Plant Manager of Kola NPP Vasiliy Omelchuk headed a group of Russian specialists engaged in the construction of the Hungarian NPP Р Paks Р in the early 1980s.У

The importance of this international contest was underscored by the Deputy Governor of Murmansk Oblast Evgeniy Nikora, ТI perfectly remember the last year in the Regional Museum of Local Lore, when we opened the Impression: from the Danube to Chukotka exhibition by Vince Balint. The exhibition aroused great interest among the people of Murmansk. The new project is being implemented with the support of the ATR AES Fund*, where I sit as a member of the Supervisory Board. I'm sure it will raise even greater interest.У

Vasiliy Omelchuk, the Plant Manager of Kola NPP, in his turn reminded the audience that 2017 was declared the Year of Ecology by the decree of the President of the Russian Federation, ТWe all understand that careful use of natural resources and preservation of a favorable environment are the main priorities of the Rosenergoatom Concern's environmental policy. The level of safety in our facilities fully ensures the preservation of the existing natural systems diversity. It is gratifying that children take part in our new Russian-Hungarian project Р In Arms of Nature photo contest.У

The Oblast preliminary round of the contest will be held from 24 April to 31 May. The winners of the final international round will be determined on 17 July. The authors of the best works will get vouchers to the international ecological camp, where the kids will get more detailed knowledge of the technique of photographing the wildlife.

ATR AES Fund or Assotsiatsiya territoriy raspolozheniya atomnykh elektrostantsiy (Nuclear Power Plant Location Association) is the foundation for assistance to the development of municipalities. It has been established in February 2013 with the aim to combine joint efforts of Rosenergoatom Concern and local authorities in order to implement federal and regional programs of improving the level of social, economic, and infrastructure development of nuclear power plant location sites.

The Kolsk NPP is an affiliate of Rosenergoatom Concern JSC and is based 200 km to the south from the city of Murmansk, at the Imandra lakeside. The plant produces around 60% of the Murmansk Region electric power. It has 4 operational power blocks with VVER-type reactors, each of them having capacity of 440 megawatt. The Kolsk NPP supplies electric power to the Murmansk Region and Karelia.
