On August 8-9, 2012 a group of deputies, representatives of social and vocational groups and mass media from the Kaliningrad region cities Р Neman, Sovetsk and Krasnoznamensk, called on Novovoronezh NPP and Novovoronezh II.



The main purpose of the visit was a wish to see with own eyes the quality of life in the city of nuclear engineers, conditions of its social facilities and infrastructure throughout the city, as well as to learn almost a semicentennial experience of NV NPP in the area of construction and operation of power units with pressurized water reactors (VVER type), and to evaluate the effectiveness of the system of interrelationship with the Administration of Novovoronezh built by the enterprise management.

Kaliningrad guests visited the construction site of NV NPP II, main control unit of Unit 4, full-scale simulator of Unit 5 of NV NPP, new building estate, sports complex and one of the city schools.

In addition, within the visit there was held a series of meetings of representatives of the Kaliningrad region with deputies of Novovoronezh City Council, city Administration and management of the operating plant and the plant under construction. Among the topics discussed were topics about industrial commissioning of the units under construction, RAW-handling, nuclear power plantХs impact on the environment, population notification and warning system, construction and financing of facilities of social infrastructure. The guests also were interested in the interaction between the city and regional authorities.  

ТThe management of the Concern, nuclear power plants and the city Administration together find solutions to problems. And yet it is so, any territory will go on developing. There exists a notion as Тnational approachУ. So, besides producing electric energy, enterprises of the nuclear power complex in the territories of their location show this approach in arranging of the social sphere and public, which lives here,У noted Sergey Chestikin, a Head of Novovoronezh city Administration, at the meeting with Kaliningrad residents.

In his turn, Head of Neman urban settlement, Valery Klenevsky, in an interview with Voronezh journalists said: ТWe are convinced that on the places of location of similar facilities, the life changes for the better. And the positive practice we have learned in Novovoronezh encourages us to take a different view of a conscientious work of the city authorities, heads of the operating plant and plant under construction, and the top management of Rosenergoatom Concern.У  

Head of Zhilino rural settlement, Svetlana Ivanovna, appreciated the importance of the trip the following way: ТIt is good that I have come here, because now I can tell my children and public of our village about what life I have seen in the city of nuclear scientists. And mainly, I will tell about the support provided to the city by the nuclear power plant.У



Novovoronezh NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is situated on the bank of the Don river at 42 km south of Voronezh. It is the first NPP in Russia, which operates reactors of VVER-type (Vessel type Pressurized Water Reactor with light water under pressure).

Each of the five plant reactors are prime Р a prototype of serial power reactors: No.1 power unit operates on VVER-210-type reactor, No.2 power unit Р VVER-365, No.3,4 power units Р VVER-440, No.5 power unit Р VVER-1000.  
Currently three power units are operated (Units 1 and 2 were stopped in 1984 and 1990, respectively).

The radiation background at the nuclear plant and the adjacent territory corresponds to the level of power unitsХ normal operation and does not exceed the natural environmental values.
