Information Centre of Kola NPP Holds Presentation of Photobook of Famous Transpolar Ornithologist

The presentation was held personally by the author of the new photobook with a loud name ТOn the 70th ParallelУ, Ryurik Chemyakin*. His lyrical album contains hundreds of rare photos of the inhabitants of Kandalaksha Nature Reserve, where the well-known transpolar scientist-ornithologist worked for a long time.

For many years given to the nature protection business, Ryurik Grigoriyevich gathered a unique collection of photos and facts about nature, plants, animals and, in particular, birds of the Subarctic.

A distinctive feature of the book was the fact that the majority of observations and pictures were made directly in the protected area of the reserve, which was an undeniable advantage of the photobook. The author has prepared a magnificent edition with the authorХs text in Russian and English.

 ТThe new project of Ryurik Chemyakin, a scientific employee of Kandalaksha Nature Reserve, has become a notable event in the pubic life of Kola NPP and the city Polyarniye Zori,У noted Acting Head of the Public Information Centre of the enterprise, Andrey Verevkin. ТThe nuclear power plant always pays great attention to the preservation of the natural balance of the Murmansk region that is why we were pleased to support the project of the talented photographer.У

During the presentation the author not only told about his book, but also answered the questions of the guests Р employees of the nuclear power plant, residents and guests of Polyarniye Zori. In particular, Ryurik Grigoriyevich told much interesting about the famous Kandalaksha labyrinths, which were a kind of Mecca of the transpolar tourism.  

* After graduating from the biological faculty of the Ural State University, for 40 years Ryurik Chemyakin has worked in one of the oldest reserves of Russia Р Kandalaksha Nature Reserve, on the islands of the White and Barents seas, engaged in the protection and studying of flora and fauna of the Subarctic.

Kola NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located 200 km to the south of Murmansk on the bank of Lake Imandra. It produces about 60% of electricity of Murmansk region. Currently, the plant operates 4 power units with VVER-type reactors. Each reactor has capacity of 440 MW. Kola NPP supplies power for Murmansk region and Karelia.
