Floating NTPP will replace Bilibinskaya station in Chukotka

In connection with the 40th anniversary of the nuclear power plant the governor of Chukotka Roman Kopin, the first deputy general director of the "Rosatom" Alexander Lokshin, the first deputy general director of the JSC Concern "Rosenergoatom" Jumberi Tkebuchava, the mayor of the district Bilibinskiy Andrei Zobov, directors of Russian nuclear power plants, and others congratulated the Bilibinskaya NPP team.

"The plant supplies 80% of electricity generated in the Chaun-Bilibino energy. In addition, it is a source of heat supply for nearby cities. Unfortunately, the life of the power units will be completed in 2019, but the development of nuclear energy in Chukotka will not stop there. Currently, a unique project for the construction of floating nuclear power stations in Pevek, which will be a worthy replacement for Bilibino, is being developed"- said Roman Kopin.

"The life of the nuclear power plant is not 50, but a hundred years or more. The Bilibino NPP lived only 40, the process of decommissioning of the station is very long, and even after stopping the staff will remain at the NPP for a long time, the station will continue to be called the "nuclear" and will operate in a mode without generating. If a decision on floating nuclear power plant will be implemented, Chukotka will remain a nuclear power region and a prototype of the future of nuclear energy, "- said Alexander Lokshin.

Number of employees of the  Bilibino NPP was awarded by certificates of honor and thanked by the Government of Chukotka, "Rosatom" and "Rosenergoatom". Under the chairmanship of Alexander Lokshin a meeting, at which the current state and prospects for further development of the Bilibino NPP were discussed, was held. In addition, Alexander Lokshin and Roman Kopin made a working visit to Pevek Chaun district, where they examined the site of the future construction of facilities for the mooring of floating nuclear power plant.
