Delegation of Municipal Authorities of Czech Republic Pays Visit to Leningrad NPP

The delegation of heads of municipalities located around Temelin NPP (Temelin, Czech Republic) and representatives of the nuclear power plant on June 6, 2012 paid a familiarization visit to Leningrad NPP and Leningrad II under construction.

The visit was organized under the support of WANO, in addition, in the Czech Republic there is actively discussed a completion of Temelin NPP construction, from which Rosatom State Corporation tends to get the major bids.

The guests were given detailed information on the environmental and radiation safety of Leningrad nuclear power plant, significance of the plant for the Northwest region of Russia, automated radiation situation monitoring system (ARSMS), plantХs social policy and cooperation system with local authorities and population.  

As Acting Director of Leningrad NPP, Konstantin Kudryavtsev, noted, Тcurrently, Russia is ahead of many countries for a number of requirements to the plantХs safety. Today, Russia offers only the most modern designs and samples of equipmentУ. Head of Leningrad NPP also responded a number of questions of clarification.

The Czech delegation familiarized with the system of the staff training at LNPP, and was shown the functional full-scale simulator of Units 3 and 4 (PMT-2), after which the guests had an opportunity to simulate variants of the simulatorХs operation at the work place of Chief Engineer of reactor control.

After the Training Centre of LNPP, the delegation visited the construction site of Leningrad II, the project of which was suggested by Rosatom for the further construction of Temelin NPP.

On the same day, there passed a meeting of the representatives of municipalities of the Czech Republic with First Deputy Head of Administration of Sosnovy Bor, Viktor Podrezov, which in details answered the questions of the foreign delegation on the formation and performance of the budget of the Russian nuclear city, forms of interaction with the nuclear power plant, and joint social projects.

Viktor Podrezov marked that Leningrad NPP except being an enterprise providing the resources for Sosnovy Bor; it closely cooperated with the municipality, funding multiple social projects. ТFor example, the sports facilities of 8 of 11 city schools were renovated for the funds of LNPP last year.

ТRosenergoatom is interested in supporting the satellite towns of LNPP, because such way we can influence on the rejuvenation of nuclear power plantsХ staffs. In Addition, in Sosnovy Bor there function a number of social programs of Rosatom State Corporation, such as ТRosatom SchoolУ, which is a support both to teachers and talented children, and many other programs,У Viktor Podrezov told.

As Deputy Director of Temelin NPP, Antonin Jesatko, explained, Тthe main purpose of the visit is to introduce the municipal authorities of South of the Czech Republic with the safety systems, functioning at the Russian nuclear power plant, because the first units of Temelin NPP were based on the Soviet designs.У

He expressed gratitude to the management of the plant for the opportunity to visit Leningrad NPP. In addition, A.Jesatko and the members of the Czech delegation noted the useful dialogue with the colleagues from the local municipalities in terms of sharing the experience in cooperation with the nuclear industry enterprises.    

Sharing the impressions from the trip to Sosnovy Bor, the representatives of the delegation of the Czech municipalities expressed their opinion that the interests of the Russian and Czech municipalities, where NPPs operated, coincided. Just as the Russian colleagues, the Czech municipal workers were interested in the safety, ecology, filling local budgets and protection of the population in emergency cases. But there were also differences associated with the state form of the governments.



Leningrad NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located in Sosnovy Bor, 80 km west of St.-Petersburg on the Gulf of Finland. LNPP is the first in the country plant operating RBMK-1000 model reactors (uranium-graphite channel-type thermal neutron reactor). The plant operates 4 power units each one having 1,000 MW.
