Belorussian Students Make Tour to Smolensk NPP
From July 10 to 12, 2012 the first-year students of the Belorussian National Technical University Р the future constructing engineers of thermal and nuclear power plants Р made a technical tour to Smolensk NPP and satellite city of the nuclear power plant, Desnogorsk. This was already the third visit of students of this university.
The guests visited the museum of the nuclear power plant, where they learned the history of its construction and operation, achievements and contribution to social and economic development of Smolensk land. In the laboratory of the outdoor radiation monitoring, they were told about how the monitoring of environment was carried out.
At the operating unit, the future atomic engineers familiarized with the operation of the equipment and production methods, visited the turbine island, reactor compartment and main control unit.
ТThe introduction training at the nuclear power facility is an essential element of vocational preparation of students of our specialized department,У stressed Senior Professor of the university, Alexander Yeliseyev. ТIn the future they will have to design and construct nuclear power plants, which is impossible without having a clear-cut idea about the plant.У
At the end of the technical tour, the students noted that Smolensk nuclear power plant was a modern enterprise, where real professionals worked. ТThe plant has impressed us with its dimensions, cleanliness and order. We made sure about Smolensk plantХs safety and responsible approach of its staff to the organization of production processes. The knowledge we received will help us in the future to develop our professional skills,У Nikita Novitsky expressed the general opinion of his fellow students.
Smolensk NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. Annually SNPP provides the country power system at an average of about 20 billion kWh of electrical power, which makes about 13% of energy produced by Rosenergoatom Concern and more than 80% produced by the power enterprises of the Smolensk Region.
