Balakovo NPP: power unit No.4 has been shut down

February 7, 2011 at 18:57 in accordance with the application filed, power unit No.4 of Balakovo NPP was shut down due to preventive repairs of thermomechanic equipment of second circuit steam system.

The power unit shut down was performed in accordance with production procedures.

The radiation consequence is not observed. The radiation background at Balakovo NPP and in the adjacent territory is not changed and corresponds to the normal operation of power units. It does not exceed the natural environmental values.

Balakovo NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located on the left bank of the Sa-ratov Reservoir, 10 kilometers to the north-east of Balakovo city, Saratov region. The NPP has four power units with updated VVER-1000 reactors (B-320 modification). Each reactor has installed electric capacity of 1,000 MW. The first power unit was commissioned in 1985, the second Р in 1987, the third Р in 1988, and the forth one Р in 1993. 


Balakovo NPP is one of the largest and advanced Russian energy enterprises. In 2010 the plant reached a record index on power production Р 31.7 B kWh with the plant capacity factor 90.5% which corresponds to analogous world NPP highest achievements.
