A turbine at Leningrad NPP under construction was run in idle mode
On the construction site of new power units of Leningrad NPP one of the most important work phases is executed Р the turbine was idled with the help of barring gear for the assembly accuracy control.
Before the start of the operation, the NPP specialists ensured full readiness of the mechanical parts of the turbine; the closure of the four low-pressure cylinders, and one high-pressure cylinder was executed, as well as the bearing closure, then the turbine was idled. This operation confirmed the high quality of installation of the basic structural elements in the turbine unit.
Now specialists have started the generator rotor and the low-pressure cylinder rotor reaming. The main purpose of this work is the alignment of the wheel space and the turbine generator shaft, their conformance with design specifications.
The next major event in the first power unit turbine island of the Leningrad NPP under construction will be the closure of generator, its connection to the turbine and the following turbine unit idling at the barring gear, as well as trial vacuum buildup.
The Leningrad NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based in the city of Sosnovy Bor, 40 km to the west from Saint Petersburg at the Gulf of Finland shore. The Leningrad NPP is the first Russian nuclear power plant having RBMK-1000 reactors (uranium-graphite channel-type thermal neutron reactors). The NPP exploits 4 power blocks with the electric capacity of 1000 megawatt each. Also, pursuant to the NPP-2006 project, 1,2 VVER-1200 power blocks included into The State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM long-term plan are being constructed. Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC is the owner and developer of the project. Holding TITAN-2 is the primary contractor. ATOMPROEKT is the general designer.
