A BN-1200 reactor power block can fit into a building for a BN-800 reactor power block
A BN-1200 reactor power block now being designed can possibly fit into a building of a BN-800 power block thanks to the brand new construction solutions and modern technologies that enable designers to fit a power blockХs equipment within a smaller accommodation.
This was the main idea presented based on the outcomes of the research and development activities carried out by Nikolay Oshkanov, the professor of the Ural Federal University who has headed the BN-K Project office (BN-1200) for six years. In particular, the metal consumption of a BN-120 power block can be reduced 1.5 times compared to BN-800, the number of latches at the basic equipment can be cut from 500 to 90 units, with the second circuit pipe lengths diminished by 30%.
The report was presented during the scientific and technological roundtable named ТLaunching BN-800 reactor power blocks as a crucial point in nuclear industry development in RussiaУ held on November 18th under the auspices of the Russian Nuclear society at the Ural Federal University.
According to Sergey Scheklein, the Chairman of the Nuclear power plants and renewable sources of energy department at the Ural Federal University, launching a BN-800 reactor is a national project with a long-term perspective, since fast reactors address the basic issue of the atomic power industry by using spent nuclear fuel and diminishing the amount of radioactive waste.
Russia is a global leader in the realm of fast reactors. Yury Nosov, the Beloyask NPP chief engineer, says that the BN-600 is the worldХs only energy-level reactor that has reached the threshold of 35 years and still runs smoothly and safely.
The Beloyarsk NPP has come into operation in April 1964. The first power blocks of the Beloyarsk NPP with thermal reactors AMB-100 and AMB-200 has been closed after the accumulated running time. The power block with a fast industrial capacity reactor BN-600 is still on. The power block with a fact reactor BN-800? is currently being prepared for coming into operation.
