"The specialists of the Beloyarsk NPP have very strong scientific potential. Here, in engineering support operation, people with academic titles work - candidates and doctors of sciences," - this feature was noted by one of the experts of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) Andrew Zababurin. Technical support mission of the Moscow Center of WANO has finished its work at the Beloyarsk NPP.

During the week a team of seven experts - representatives of the WANO MC, Smolensk and Leningrad NPP, ARRINPO and Concern "Rosenergoatom" held technical support mission on the theme "Building an effective service engineering support" at Beloyarsk NPP.

Such missions are one of the main functions of the WANO. Nuclear plants voluntarily invite the experts from international organizations to adopt the best international practices of any kind of industrial activity as well as to share their best practices, which experts will recommend to other nuclear power plants.

"You have a unique object and some of the processes are organized differently than in other nuclear power plants. At the same time the experience of nuclear power plants with reactors of other types can be useful and for the Beloyarsk NPP. Sharing best achievements, cross-fertilization is one of the basic principles of the  WANO," - said the Head of the team of technical support mission, an adviser at the WANO MC Alexander Astapov.

The mission support and staff of the Beloyarsk NPP shared experiences, ideas and opinions on the direction of the structure, functions, database and methodological guidelines of engineering support operation of nuclear power stations. Both sides believe that the last mission was very useful for the further improvement of the production areas and for reliable and safe operation of nuclear power plants.

The Beloyarsk nuclear power plant was entered into work in April, 1964. It was the first nuclear power plant in big nuclear power of the country and the only one with reactors of different types on one platform. The first power units of the Beloyarsk nuclear power plant were with reactors on thermal neutrons AMB-100 and AMB-200 and were stopped in connection with resource development. There is the only one power unit in the world with reactor on fast neutrons of an industrial power level BN-600 in work. There is a power unit with reactor on fast neutrons BN-800 being constructed. Power units on fast neutrons are urged to expand significantly fuel base of nuclear power and to minimize radioactive waste at the expense of organization of closed nuclear and fuel cycle.
