International experts have identified five strengths of the Beloyarsk NPP that can be used at other nuclear power plants

The WANO peer review team of experts working at the Beloyarsk NPP from October 1 to 15, 2021, identified five operational strengths that can be used at other nuclear power plants, defined areas for improvement and made suggestions for further activity.

The strengths identified by international experts at the Beloyarsk NPP refer to the spheres of operation, maintenance and repair, engineering and fire protection.

The achievements of the Beloyarsk NPP in the field of safety culture were expressly indicated: the experts drew attention to the working environment of mutual respect and a responsible attitude of the management to safety issues that have developed in the work collective.

They also liked the state of the equipment and premises, the quality of informing employees about safety culture, and the fact that the personnel of the Beloyarsk NPP are proud of the achievements of their enterprise and are interested in the results of its work.

Sergey Shishkin, head of the expert team, representative of the WANO Moscow Center, said: “Improving production activities is a journey without stopping. If you stop, you fall behind. To be proactive means to identify problems before they arise. Our peer review has laid another brick in the further improvement of the Beloyarsk NPP operation”.

“The peer review is the best instrument of all NPP inspections because other inspections are performed according to regulatory documents, and only this one is carried out according to the best world practices. Comparison with the best world practices is very useful: it gives an impetus for further improvement of the operation of the nuclear power plant,” emphasized Ivan Sidorov, director of the Beloyarsk NPP.

The WANO team of experts presented Ivan Ivanovich with a commemorative sign of the past Peer Review.
