International WANO peer review has started at the Kola NPP

On October 14, 2021 at the Kola NPP a peer review process is conducted by the WANO Moscow Center consisting of 21 members from Hungary, Belgium, Armenia, Iran, Belarus and Russia.

Experts arrived at the nuclear power plant to compare the results achieved by it in various areas of production activity with the best world practices.

WANO is the World Association of Nuclear Power Plant Operators. Today, all nuclear power plants in the world are a part of the WANO. The peer review program, conducted every 4 years, is established to help all nuclear plant professionals achieve the highest levels of operational safety by providing them with access to a worldwide treasure trove of expertise.

Chief Engineer of the Kola NPP Vladimir Matveev noted: "The peer review will support the Kola NPP in achieving high performance indicators, finding the best ways for further industrial development, improving safety and reliability."

From 15 to 29 October, international experts will identify the strengths of the Kola NPP, which will allow sharing experience with representatives of other nuclear power plants, as well as define spheres that require improvement.

During two weeks international experts, together with specialists from the Kola NPP will conduct observations in 11 areas: organizational structure and administrative management of production, operation, modernization and repair, engineering and technical support, operating experience, radiation protection, chemical technology, as well as personnel training and qualifications, emergency preparedness and fire safety.
