Rosenergoatom: Kursk and Balakovo NPPs named the best in the development of safety culture in 2020

The results of the efforts of all nuclear power plants (branches of Rosenergoatom JSC, part of the Electric Power Division of Rosatom) to maintain and develop safety culture were summarized on December 10, 2020, at the Annual Final Safety Culture Day*.

This year it was dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the birth of Boris Antonov, who made a great personal contribution to the development of this area during his work as Technical Director of the JSC.

According to the established rules, the expert commission consisting of the heads of the relevant departments of Rosenergoatom and the chief engineers of the NPP should select not one but two NPPs that have achieved the greatest results in the field of safety culture.

The decision is made by open voting following reports and serious discussion. The winners are the NPPs that have received the largest number of votes in total.

Chairman of the expert commission, First Deputy Director General for operating Rosenergoatom NPPs, Aleksandr Shutikov underlined the importance of developing safety culture for both the JSC and the nuclear energy branch: “For each of us, safety culture is not mere words, but, above all, a personal high degree of responsibility. We all realize that only unconditional 100% safety is the only and obligatory condition that provides the basis for the development of not only our enterprise, but also the nuclear industry in Russia and the world.”

*The Final Safety Culture Day has been held at Rosenergoatom JSC every year since 2005. It was established and is being held on the eve of December 10 in memory of the first technical director of the company, Boris Vasilyevich Antonov, who made a great personal contribution to the development of safety culture at nuclear power plants. In 2020, Boris Vasilyevich would have turned 75 years old.
