New business areas

ROSATOM actively develops new business areas and enters new markets along with development of traditional businesses. According to ROSATOM’s strategy, proceeds from new businesses must be 30% of total proceeds by 2030. To reach this target, the work to assess promising investment areas is carried out along with creation of conditions for full employment of potential and competences of the nuclear sector organizations. The goal is to build up the portfolio of new products and services orders in already existing and promising markets.

ROSATOM’s companies offer solutions that meet most stringent requirements for safety, reliability and efficiency. These are instrument engineering, information technologies, electrical and power equipment, radiation technologies, metal processing equipment, safety systems, pipeline valves, and many others. The nuclear industry potential is used in making product offers for key industries, such as natural gas and oil sector, power generation, metallurgy, shipbuilding and aircraft engineering, and rocket and space industry.

The localization program conducted jointly with Schneider Electric in production of electrical equipment for NPP construction projects abroad is one of another examples of new business developments. The cooperation of Schneider Electric with ROSATOM’s JSC Ural Electromechanical Plant (JSC UEMZ) has developed successfully since 2013. The key interaction area is transfer of industrial technology of manufacturing the equipment significant for NPPs that meets international and Russian safety requirements. In several years it successfully completed localization of medium voltage switchgears MCset 17.5 kV of Schneider Electric, which is the world leader in electrical equipment. In April 2019 JSC UEMZ received two certificates of conformity with the standards of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) for low voltage switchgear (LVSG) of the new USG (Ural Switchgear) series. The certificates were issued by the French certification body ASEFA. The new USG series of LVSG cabinets have advanced safety features and extended service life of 50+ years. Besides, the cabinets boast augmented thickness of the metal frames and an increased number of busbars as well as heightened thermal and electrodynamic resistance to short-circuit currents. Available LVSG certificates of conformity with IEC standards will allow UEMZ to supply equipment to all overseas construction projects of nuclear power plants of Russian design. In the next 10 years, more than 12 thousand such cabinets are planned to be delivered.
