The Rosenergoatom Joint-Stock Company has invested 4,304 billion rubles in environment protection in 2019

The World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5th. The people of the nuclear power industry recognize this day together with professional environmentalists and socially responsible environment protection organizations. This is an important day for anyone who believes ecology is a universal value and has it in their DNA.

As of nowadays, the nuclear power industry has fully met its commitments on drastic reduction of CO2 emissions and carbon-free power.

Here are some quick facts about the nuclear power plants and the Rosenergoatom Joint-Stock Company:

In 2019, thanks the amount of electric power produced at Russian NPP, an equivalent of 109.5 million tons of CO2 was saved on greenhouse gas emissions.

The nuclear power plants account for less than 0.01% of pollutants released into the environment by all production companies in Russia.

The total pollutant emissions fr om all NPPs in 2019 did not exceed the set limits.

The amount of pollutants released in the environment doesn’t simply stay within the limits – it is actually far below those limits set by the environment protection authorities. In 2019, this amount was 1,070 tons, which is only 16.86% of the acceptable lim it.

In 2019, the Rosenergoatom Joint-Stock Company invested 4,304 billion rubles in the environment protection.

The company is committed to protecting the atmospheric air and preventing climate change, maintaining the biodiversity and protection of natural sites, facilitation of radiation safety, sewage waters collection and treatment, waste handling, research and development aimed at reducing the adverse human-made impact and other areas related to the environment protection.

In 2019, a number of environment protection measures were taken at the running NPPs, among those: the upgrade of the ventilation systems at the Balakovo NPP, the upgrade of the chemical water treatment at the Beloyarsk NPP, the upgrade of pumps and pumping equipment at the Kalinin NPP, the upgrade of disposal facilities at the Kola NPP and the recreational center at the Leningrad NPP. Around 500 thousand young grass carps and 1.4 million mirror carps were released in the Rostov NPP water pond. The list goes on and on.
