The Leningrad NPP: the VVER-1200 6th power unit’s reactor building has been insulated

Special finishing has been applied at the VVER-1200 6th power block’s reactor building of the Leningrad NPP: the contracting company’s team has clad the outer walls of the most important NPP building using special thermal panels. The total area of the deployed structures has exceeded 6,000 square meters. This is comparable to the area of a standard football field.

Now, the primary facility housing the reactor, the steam generators, the main coolant pipeline and other important equipment, sustained in silver and metal notes and fits well with other facilities of the new power units in Leningrad. The great appearances, however, is not the only designation of this finishing.

‘The primary idea of these panels is about insulation. The materials used for finishing have superb insulation capacities. Besides, they are very solid and thick, and they can handle impact force. These panels are water-proof, cannot be destroyed by ultraviolet, non-reactive to bacteria and fungi. They are durable and maintenance-ready, and they can be easily replaced’, Andrey Garusov, the deputy director of capital construction at the Leningrad NPP, said.

Shortly, similar redecoration activities are to be completed at all buildings and constructions of the VVER-1200 6th power unit of the Leningrad NPP. The appearances of the premises will be modified, too: the contractor’s team is still working on the amenities, removing waste and construction camps, paving highways and footpaths, dumping macadam.

At present, the Leningrad NPP VVER-1200 6th power block is getting ready for the physical start-up. This milestone, crucial both for the industry and the nation, is due this summer. The commissioning is planned for 2021.
