The digital pattern of NPP operation has been introduced at the Balakovo NPP

A computer-aided maintenance management system (CAMMS) has been introduced at the Balakovo nuclear power plant. It was designed specifically for high-technology companies in the nuclear power industry. The new software package supports the whole strategy of an NPP maintenance campaign, has a number of work packages for planned maintenance activities taking into consideration all possible nuances, starting with the scheduled large-sized equipment maintenance up to facilitating NPP and contracting staff access to the maintenance site.

The Balakovo NPP has already conducted six maintenance campaigns using CAMMS. During each planned campaign, around 20 thousand units of equipment are being supported in the system. There are over 1,500 users in CAMMS, including the staff of the Atomenergoremont company’s branch in Balakovo. The automated system helps to coordinate the activities of all maintenance team members, keep track of the upgrade progress, the materials and the spare parts used, as well as to form a set of reports following the completion of a maintenance campaign.

‘No project of such scale can be easy. Its coverage is huge – this is a stepping stone towards the digital pattern of NPP operation, its basis’, Vladimir Kniazkin, deputy chief engineer of the Balakovo NPP in charge of engineering support services and quality, said. ‘When introducing CAMMS, we had to take into account the peculiarities of all Russian NPPs as we strived to develop a common solution. Despite all the obstacles, our IT, maintenance and operation team did a great job. As a result, we used the system to complete the maintenance on all four power units’.
