Rosenergoatom: the first containerized data centers have been installed at the Kalininsky DC

The deployment of containerized, or modular, data centers within the DC infrastructure hosted by Rosenergoatom (a part of the Electric power division of the Rosatom State Corporation) is one of the new services the Company is now offering to its commercial clients, alongside an opportunity to set up their own IT infrastructure for different projects, including but not limited to blockchain-related ones.

The Kalininskiy DC infrastructure site with the capacity of 32 MVA was launched late 2019 and is fully ready to go. It is designed for commercial customers who can deploy up to thirty containerized or modular data centers of their own with the unit capacity up to 1 MVA. Each container may host around 500 units of blockchain-specific computing facilities.

Sergey Migalin, the deputy CEO and the Economy & Finance director at the Rosenergoatom, noted: ‘In April, our site housed the first containerized data centers with the total capacity of up to 2 MVA, and we forecast that the demand for this service will be growing. This service is highly sought-after as there is a huge shortage of DCs in non-metropolitan areas’.

It is important to note that the Kalininskiy DC infrastructure site is a part of the Rosenergoatom Joint-Stock Company’s Data Processing and Storage Center (city of Udomlya, Tver Region, next to the Kalinin NPP) and complies with the highest standards in the realm of power and engineering infrastructure security and reliability.

The Rosenergoatom Joint-Stock Company enables their clients to deploy mobile and containerized data centers at six infrastructure sites in Central Russia while facilitating the right level of security and reliability. The total capacity of all infrastructure sites is around 330 megawatts.
