The Russian NPPs (the affiliates of the Rosenergoatom Joint-Stock Company, the Electric power division of the Rosatom State Corporation) are taking all precautions to protect their employees’ health and safety and to facilitate business continuity at the plants.

The operating staff working at the nuclear facilities have special accommodation terms. The applicable order was signed on April 2, 2010 by Andrey Petrov, the CEO at Rosenergoatom.

'The operating staff in charge of production process continuity and nuclear facility operation as well as the backup shift staff who can replace the operating ones in necessary will be based at the health care facilities of the nuclear power plants’, Andrey Petrov said.

He stressed that this relocation is only done with each staff member consent and, before the staff is checked in, they will undergo compulsory medical testing. Everything is in place for people to live and have meals and entertainment separately, and they will be under constant medical control. Special vehicles undergoing regular disinfection will be used to drive people to and from work.

When necessary, a group of volunteers from the NPP youth organizations and city non-profit organizations will be helping out the families of the operating staff – for example, they will do grocery shopping or help with any urgent household issues. Volunteers in a number of ‘nuclear’ cities are already helping the most vulnerable people as well as educate the population on how to behave as the virus is spreading. All volunteers have been provided with personal protective equipment.

It is important to note that, since the Russian NPPs qualify as essential facilities, they are still working on producing electric power. All the necessary prevention measures are taken to cater for staff safety, their health condition is constantly monitoring and their temperatures are taken on a regular basis. All premises and vehicles are being disinfected, and the staff has the personal protective equipment it requires. The support services staff is working from home.
