Ten scored! The floating NPP has delivered its first 10 mln kWh of electric power to the Chukotka grid

The floating nuclear heat and power plant (FNHPP, a project by the Rosenergoatom Joint-Stock Company, a part of the Rosatom State Corporation) has delivered its first 10 mln kWh of electric power into the isolated network of the Chauny-Bilibino hub (the Chukotka Autonomous Region) since its connection to the grid on December 19, 2019.

As of now, the FNHPP caters for 1/5 of the Chauny-Bilibino hub’s needs, and in the meantime it is intended to fully cover the growing demand for electric power in Chukotka by becoming a reliable source of energy for both the city of Pevek and the whole region in general.

Vitaliy Trutnev, the director of the Rosenergoatom Joint-Stock Company’s Administration of floating nuclear heat and power plants construction and operation, said: ‘In the future, the electric power produced by the FNHPP will facilitate the growth of the gold, copper and other natural resources mining companies in Chukotka. Additionally, the FNHPP will be one of the key elements in the infrastructure of the Northern Sea Route. Our main objective for 2020 is to commission the facility into the production’.

It is important to note that, according to a reputable ‘Power’ magazine, the connection of the floating NPP into the grid became one of the key nuclear power events in 2019.
