In 2019, the Kalinin NPP will deliver over 30 billion kWh of electric power into the Russian power grid

By the end of 2019, the Kalinin NPP will have produced 30.870 bullion kWh of electric power. The company has completed the governmental assignment as early as on December 12, which means it will deliver an extra 1 billion kWh into the county’s power grid.

2019 was the anniversary of the Kalinin NPP. For 35 years, the nuclear power plant has been in charge of reliable electric power generation accounting for over 80% of the electric power produced in the Tver region and supplying electricity to the majority of regiona manufacturers.

This year, the NPP has managed to attain the crucial production milestones related to nuclear and radiation safety. The 4th power block has been deployed to commercial operation at 104% of its capacity, and Rostekhnadzor has issued a license to operate the 3rd power block until 2034.

In November, the 1st power block went into a major overhaul with a full-scale upgrade of the crucial life support facilities. As of now, the power block is licensed by Rostekhnadzor to remain in extended service until 2025. Following the completion of the overhaul, its life span may be extended until 2044.

This year brought lots of great accomplishments to the Kalinin NPP team members taking part in the national Worldskills hi-tech championship and the Open Eurasian WorldSkills Championship. Three awards in the ‘Occupational Health & Safety’ and ‘Power assets’ manufacturing systems’ became a great contribution into the Rosatom’s ‘hall of fame’.

Victor Ignatov, the director of the Kalinin NPP: ‘Our main goals for the upcoming year is to conduct quality overhaul campaign, extend the 1st power block’s life span, and to successfully undergo the IAEA OSART mission. This is an important milestone for our plant, the goal of which is to verify the Kalinin NPP’s adherence to safety and our operational compliance with the international standards set by the IAEA’.

The Kalininskaya nuclear power plant is a branch of the Rosenergoatom. The station is located in the north of the Tver region in the Udomelskiy area. There are four power units with water-cooled power reactors (VVER-1000) with installed capacity of 1000 MW each in the structure of the Kalininskaya nuclear power station.
