The Kursk NPP plans to produce 23.87 billion kWh by the end of the year

This plan was announced by Viacheslav Fedyukin, the director of the Kursk NPP, during the media conference dedicated to the 2019 year’s results.

The Kursk NPP is the largest electric power generation source in the Black Earth region accounting for 50% of the region’s demand and over 90% of the industrial energy consumption of the Kursk region.

On December 16, the company has fully delivered on its obligations to produce 22.77 billion kWh as set forth in the FAS’ Governmental Plan. According to the preliminary estimates, by January 1, 2020, the company will deliver an extra 1.1 billion kWh into the country’s national grid. This is comparable to the amount of electric power consumed in the Kursk region in 1.5 months.

This year, the NPP has been focusing on safe and sustainable service of the power blocks, including their upgrade. In 2019, the Kursk NPP was named the best one out of ten Russian NPPs for its achievements in this regard. In 2017-2019, over 23 billion rubles were invested into the power blocks’ safe operation and the construction of the development facilities. By 2030, the total investments into the safe power block service will be over 37 billion rubles.

Since 2018, the Kursk NPP has been working on an innovative project of producing Co-60 isotopes. On June 13, 2019, the team uploaded the last out of 27 absorbents scheduled for this year. The product extraction from the reactor will commence in 2023. By that time, the natural cobalt-59 will have transformed into a valuable Co-60 isotope.

2019 was also very productive with regard to the construction of new power blocks. The first preparatory activities at the construction site were initiated in December 2013. On April 29, 2018, the construction of the new power blocks began when the first few cubic meters of concrete were placed into the 1stpower block’s reactor building foundation. 13 key milestones have been achieved this year, including two governmental assignments: the installation of the melt  trap  for  the  Kursk  NPP-2  1stpower  block  and  the  concreting  of  the  2ndpower block’s reactor building foundation. As of now, over 4,700 people from 22 contracting companies, 4 of which are located in the Kursk region, are involved in the construction of the new Kursk NPP-2 power blocks.‘The fact that we build new power blocks is a guarantee that the Kursk NPP will stick to its role as a perfect power leader in the economy and the social life of the region’, Viacheslav Fedyukin stressed.

Just  as  well  as  previously,  the  Kursk  NPP  remains  one  of  the  largest  taxpayers  in  the region. Following the Agreement between the Rosatom State Corporation and the Kursk region administration,  the  amount  of  additional  tax  income  into  the  regional  budget  comprised  2 billion 238 million rubles. The total amount of additional tax incomes in 2013-2019 was 9 billion 279 million rubles. In addition to that, in 2019, the Kursk NPP contributed over 83 million rubles into the charities of the region.

‘The  economic  health  center’,  a  joint  project  carried  out  by  the  Rosatom  State Corporation and the Federal Medical and Biological Agencyof Russia, is running successfully at the dispensary No.125 of the Kurchatov city. It was launched at the dispensary in September 2017. The money invested by the nuclear power industry were spent on buying150 computers as well as dozens of peripheral equipment units with the total cost of over 10 million rubles. In2019, thecompanyallocated  over  5  million  rubles  for  the  ground  floor  redecoration  at  the health center for people with disabilities. Early December, the Kursk NPP granted a number of 2-room apartments to the dispensary No.125 so that the latter can attract more doctors to work there.

‘In 2020, the Kursk NPP will continue working on these programs. Our top priority is safe and reliable service of the existing power blocks, delivering on the electric power production program, carrying out scheduled maintenance works at the current power blocks, and timely delivery on the key milestones related to the construction of the new VVER-TOI power blocks’, Viacheslav Fedyukin noted.
