Novovoronezh NPP: specialists from Finland and their counterparts in Novovoronezh exchanged their experience in terms of communications

A delegation from the Finnish company Fennovoima Oy and representatives of AO Rusatom Energo International (AO REIN) and RAOS Project Oy working jointly on the construction project of the one-block Hanhikivi-1 NPP with a VVER-1200 reactor in the Finnish province of Northern Ostrobothnia paid a working visit to the Novovoronezh NPP.

The Finnish communications team familiarized themselves with the new Novovoronezh NPP information center. Such centers will be established at all Russian NPPs, but the first pilot run was conducted at the Novovoronezh NPP.

‘We will be launching our own Information center at the Hanhikivi-1 NPP and plan that it will be open for visits in 2022. I have been greatly impressed about your Center, it contains tons of interesting information, a lot of interactive devices, which is extremely important for young people nowadays, they should like it. It visualizes all types of electric power production technologies, the plant and the equipment working diagrams, and it’s very easy to grasp’, Sakari Kotola, communications director at Fennovoima, said.

The delegation has visited the International staff training center where they learned about how the full-scale main control room simulator works for 3+ generation VVER-1200 power blocks. They have also attended the Novovoronezh NPP History Museum and the Nuclear Power Center in Voronezh.

Fennovoima Oy is a Finnish nuclear power company established in 2007 by a consortium of power and manufacturing companies in Finland. Fennovoima is preparing for the construction of a VVER-1200 power block of the Hanhikivi-1 NPP nuclear electric power plant in Finland.

AO REIN (the Rosatom State Corporation) joined the Fennovoima’s shareholders in 2014 with an ownership share of 34%.

RAOS Project Oy is a general supplier of the Hanhikivi-1 NPP, an affiliate company of AO REIN.

Novovoronezh NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom JSC (a part of the largest Division of Rosatom State Corporation – Electric Power Division). The Plant is situated on the River Don bank 42 km South of Voronezh. This is the first NPP of Russia with VVER type reactors (Water-Water Power Reactors of containment type with water under pressure). Three reactors of the Plant are the main ones – the prototypes of the serial power reactors. The first power unit was commissioned in 1964, the second one - in 1969, the third one – in 1971, the fourth one – in 1972, and the fifth one – in 1980. The power units No 1 and No 2 were shut down in 1984 and 1990, respectively. The power unit No 3 was shut down in 2016 for the decommissioning events.
The 4th power block was launched following its upgrade and life span expansion on December 27, 2018. The 1st Novovoronezh NPP-2 power block (Novovoronezh NPP 6th power block) was commissioned on December 27, 2017, with the 2nd Novovoronezh NPP-2 (Novovoronezh NPP 7th power block) following on October 31, 2019.
