Prospective employees of the Belarusian nuclear power plant completed their training at the Kalinin NPP

The students of the Belarusian State University (BSU, Minsk) majoring in Nuclear Physics & Technologies have completed their work placement training at the Kalinin NPP. The studies were organized as a part of the State staff training program for the nuclear power industry in the Republic of Belarus.

According to Evgeny Kolesnichenko, deputy chief engineer responsible for staff training at the Kalinin NPP, the nuclear power plant has been a playground for training aspiring nuclear power experts for many years. ‘Undertaking their internship at the Kalinin NPP allows them to gain the knowledge and skills that will be applicable to their future job’, Evgeniy Kolesnichenko noted.

The staff training program for the Belarusian NPP covered both theoretical lectures and hands-on activities with regard to reactor and turbine halls’ system and equipment operation.

For two weeks, the students studied the specifics of generating electric power at pressurized water type reactors and visited multiple production facilities of the Kalinin NPP.

Classes at the technical rooms and at a full-scale power block main control room simulator were held for the trainees utilizing the facilities of the Kalinin NPP training center.

‘Training the staff for the Belarusian NPP is a top priority. And the fact that they can have an internship at an operating NPP with a similar reactor plays a crucial role. This is why the Kalinin NPP works best. Its geographic position is perfect, it has a full range of modern full-scale simulators, and has a huge training base, which comprises workshops, classrooms and special training classes’, Oleg Semenovich, senior professor at the Nuclear Physics department, Physics Faculty of the Belarusian State University, stressed.

The Kalininskaya nuclear power plant is a branch of the Rosenergoatom. The station is located in the north of the Tver region in the Udomelskiy area. There are four power units with water-cooled power reactors (VVER-1000) with installed capacity of 1000 MW each in the structure of the Kalininskaya nuclear power station.
