Rostelecom becomes a universal data network carrier for the Rosenergoatom Joint-Stock Company

Rostelecom has completed the establishment of highly-reliable corporate data transfer network for the Rosenergoatom Joint-Stock Company (a part of the Rosatom State Corporation), which unites nine nuclear power plants in the North-Western, Central, Povolzhskiy, Southern and Ural federal districts.

According to the customer’s specification, to facilitate state-of-the-art reliability and fault tolerance, Rostelecom has provided 100% data transfer channel redundancy on geographically distributed routes across the whole network.

‘This projects has enabled the Rosenergoatom Joint-Stock Company to increase the data transfer channel capacity towards the nuclear power plants by 2.5 times on average while almost halving the costs for it. The successful implementation of this project can help us both address our day-to-day challenges and lay the foundation for the development of the Company’s digital products’, Oleg Shalnov, the IT project management and integration department director at the Rosenergoatom Joint-Stock Company, said.

The Rosatom State Corporation, the Rosenergoatom Joint-Stock Company and Rostelecom PJSC have been strategic partners for many years. The companies have signed a Cooperation Memorandum to spur the development of digital economy in the Russian Federation and a Cooperation agreement to combat computer attacks to exchange information, technologies and skills in order to combine their efforts to protect corporate networks from malware and cyber attacks. In summer 2019, the largest Russian set of data centers was launched in the city of Udomlya, the Tver region (next to the Kalinin NPP), the protection level of which is second to none: Rostelecom owns 4,000 rack spaces in the first circuit, while Rosenergoatom holds 800.
