The compliance audit confirms the advanced level of environment management system at the Novovoronezh NPP

The audit aimed at confirming the compliance of the environment management system with the international ISO 14001:2015 and the national GOST R ISO 14001-2016 standards has been completed at the Novovoronezh NPP (NV NPP). This audit was to reconfirm the validity of the compliance certificates issued last year. 17 departments of the NV NPP underwent the standard compliance check in 4 days.

The DQS audit group visited the production facilities and departments, reviewed the documentation, and interviewed the staff. The team has also evaluated the environment risks and the implementation of activities designed to manage the identified risks.

Last year, 5 areas for improvement were noted, and the NV NPP worked a lot to address those, in particular: a risk matrix was developed, a procedure for handling production and consumption waste was enhanced, and all people responsible for those directions were trained.

Also, the fourth order of the NV NPP (6th power block) entered the audit stage last year. In order to facilitate the verification process, a new document called ‘The audit, verification, and safety days performance regulation’ was elaborated. This best practice proved its efficiency during the audit.

‘We have reviewed the results of what the company has been doing for the past year, and we can see that all recommendations were taken into account and the trends are very possible. The international standards are revisited all the time, and one should take a holistic approach to the environment management systems, as those tend to lean towards quality, environment and labour protection. The team has also included the risk management activities, which is of high importance for an NPP’, Elena Ilyna, the head of the group and an international DQS auditor, said.

The NV NPP introduced its environment management system back in 2009. Since that time, the standards have changed and improved multiple times. The NV NPP has always managed to keep itself up to speed in terms of being compliant with the international and local regulations.
