The Rosenergoatom Joint-Stock Company is to build a Data Center in Tatarstan that will form the digital infrastructure of Innopolis
On May 23, 2019, during the ‘Digital industry in Russia’ conference, a trilateral Memorandum on cooperation between the Rosenergoatom Joint-Stock Company (a part of the Electric power division of Rosatom), the Innopolis Special Economic Zone and the IT Park Autonomous Public Institution was signed.
The memorandum stipulates the major directions and tenants of cooperation when implementing data center construction projects for major public and private customers in the Republic of Tatarstan in the innovative city of the future – Innopolis*.
According to the document, the Rosenergoatom Joint-Stock Company, which boasts experience in launching the ‘Mendeleev’ project aimed at building highly secure data centers in Russia, offers to scale its expertise and hands-on skills in data construction and setting up the operations of NPP data centers across the Republic of Tatarstan.
The Innopolis Special Economic Zone, on the other hand, is willing to provide the spaces, the necessary engineering infrastructure and qualified staff to launch this project. The IT Park will also be involved in this project as it acts as a great example in managing the Republic’s IT infrastructure and operating an existing data center.
The parties have agreed to finalize all technical, managerial, and financial aspects of the project and start designing the new data center for the Republic of Tatarstan under the supervision of Rosatom within 2019.
* Innopolis is a Russian city located in Tatarstan. Its construction was initiated in 2012, and it was opened three years later. In 2012, a Special Economic Zone was established following a decree from the Russian government. Innopolis has its own urban environment with residential infrastructure, educational and professional development opportunities. The authorities of Tatarstan develop Innopolis as a lodestone for IT companies.
The Rosenergoatom Joint-Stock Company is a leading unit of the Electric Power Division of the Rosatom State Corporation. The JSC is the largest generation company in Russia in terms of the
electric power output and the world’s 2nd one in terms of the atomic generation capacity. It encompasses all 10 nuclear power plants of Russia that have an affiliate status as well as companies facilitating the operation of the generation unit. All in all, the Russian NPPs operate 35 power blocks with the total installed capacity of 29.1 GW.
