Novovoronezh NPP: nearly 80 students will undertake work practice in the International Training Centre

79 students of National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (NENU MEPhI) will undertake work practice in the International Training Centre on the basis of the Training Centre (TC) of Novovoronezh NPP (NVNPP) (a branch of Rosenergoatom JSC, a part of Rosatom’s Electric Power Division) until the end of 2018.

Turkish students are divided into 3 groups: the first group undertook the practice in June, the second group has their practice now, and the third one will start the practice on 8 October. Each course lasts for 3 weeks. During their training, Turkish students work out their practical skills at innovative power units. The specialists of NVNPP TC share their experience of working at NPP, tell about the primary and secondary circuit systems, and safety systems.

“Nuclear power is a very perspective field. During the practice we have learned a lot of interesting things. It would be impossible to work at the facility like Akkuyu NPP without knowledge we’ve received here”, the student of 6th course Yenidje Samet shared his impressions.

Turkish students are the future workers of Akkuyu NPP (Turkey). Apart from training in TC the students learn the organizational structure of the innovative Generation 3+ power units of NVNPP. After the graduation they will work out practical skills at Akkuyu NPP, that is being built in Turkey.

For reference:

Akkuyu NPP is the nuclear power plant under construction at the Southern coast of Turkey. Akkuyu NPP is being constructed by the Russian design on the basis of Novovoronezh NPP-2 design. It includes the construction and commissioning of four power units with VVER-1200 reactors. On 3 April, 2018 in the Gulnar Municipality (Mersin Province, Turkey) the grand ceremony of the first concrete pouring at the construction site of Akkuyu NPP was held. It marked the beginning of the full-scale works on the construction of the first Turkish nuclear power plant by Rosatom. The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Erdogan took part in the ceremony via videoconference.

Novovoronezh NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom JSC (a part of the largest Division of Rosatom State Corporation – Electric Power Division). The Plant is situated on the River Don bank 42 km South of Voronezh. This is the first NPP of Russia with VVER type reactors (Water-Water Power Reactors of containment type with water under pressure). Three reactors of the Plant are the main ones – the prototypes of the serial power reactors. The first power unit was commissioned in 1964, the second one - in 1969, the third one – in 1971, the fourth one – in 1972, and the fifth one – in 1980.

The power units No 1 and No 2 were shut down in 1984 and 1990, respectively. The power unit No 3 was shut down in 2016 for the decommissioning events. The power unit No 4 was shut down for modernization works. The power unit No 1 of Novovoronezh NPP-2 was commissioned on 27 February, 2017. The power unit No 2 is in the stage of commissioning works.
