24.09.2018  KOLSK NPP INFORMATION AND PUBLIC RELATIONS ADMINISTRATION

Experts of the Press Services of the Russian and the Finnish Nuclear Societies exchanged their experience in the field of communications at the site of Kola NPP

On 18-20 September, 2018, the press service representatives of Kola and Leningrad NPPs, the STUK and the TVO (Finland) met at Kola NPP site to share experience.

It has been the third seminar on communication this year. It was organized within the cooperation agreement between Rosenergoatom and the STUK (Nuclear and Radiation Safety Centre of Finland).

The Nuclear Societies’ press services focus on the ways to provide the public with objective information on the NPPs’ safety, to increase public confidence in the information provided, and to spread information through social networks.

“We have long maintained mutual professional relations with our colleagues from Finland and Leningrad NPP in the field of safety improvement”, the Manager of Kola Nuclear Power Plant Vasiliy Omelchuk noted. “Of course, experience exchange and technical cooperation have their benefit. We have been engaged in increasing security since the early 90s, and today Kola Nuclear Power Plant has rightfully become the benchmark for nuclear, technical and environmental security and responsibility, as well as in the field of labor protection. Anyone can find confirmation for this. I hope that we will be able to keep successfully interacting, while at the same time bringing objective information about NPPs to the world”, he said.

The seminar has been useful for each of the parties. “The more we exchange information, the less fears, concerns, and the lack of understanding there are among our residents of our regions”, Tatyana Kornysheva, the Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations at Leningrad NPP, explained. “For us, this seminar is an opportunity to learn how to talk with your Finnish colleagues in one language.”

“We are working to achieve the same goals”, Anna Nieme, TVO (Olkiluoto), Finland. “We use the same means of communication with the public: from TV and newspapers to social networks. And if we exchange information, this collective work will be much more effective.”

In addition to the working meeting, the guests visited the Plant and the most popular facilities – the environmental protection lab, trout farm and the enterprise’s information centre.
