The WANO’s support mission on equipment condition monitoring was completed at Rostov NPP

On 13 September, 2018 at Rostov NPP the World Association of Nuclear Operators support mission on Experience of the organization, carrying out and monitoring of the routine inspection of the equipment by the operating personnel (the monitoring of the equipment and operating facilities’ condition) was completed.

The international experts from Bulgaria (Kozloduy NPP), Ukraine (Rivne NPP), Russia (Smolensk NPP, Kola NPP) and WANO Moscow Centre took part in the support mission.

“Support mission is such a format that gives an opportunity to gain new experience, and opportunity to optimize working processes”, the head of the support mission program of the WANO Evgeniy Kovalev noted.

The routine inspection of the equipment is one of the most important parts in the area of the safe operation of the nuclear power plants. During the mission WANO experts shared the advanced experience in this area that is applied at the world’s NPPs.

Also, the specialists of the World Association of Nuclear Operators made a call to the power unit No 3 of Rostov NPP, where they visited unit’s control room and turbine island.

Upon the completion of the mission the WANO team gave Rostov NPP the report with offers and recommendations of the experts.

The WANO is the World Association of Nuclear Operators. It was founded on 1989 in order to share the experience of NPP operation. It is not a supervisory body. Today, the WANO includes all world’s nuclear operators. The goal of the WANO activity is improvement of the safety at all NPPs of the world. Its mission is to maximize the safety and reliability of the NPPs applying mutual efforts for assessment, comparison with the best achievement and improvements of the operation through the mutual support, information exchange and use of the positive experience. 

Rostov NPP is the branch of the Rosenergoatom (a part of the Electric Energy Division – the largest division of Rosatom State Corporation). The enterprise is located at the shore of Tsimlyansk Reservoir 13 km away from the town of Volgodonsk. The NPP operates the reactors of VVER-1000 type with the installed capacity of 1,000 MW. The power unit No 1 was put into industrial operation in 2001, No 2 – in 2010, No 3 – in September, 2015. The power unit No 4 was started up in February, 2018.
