German students are interested in the fast neutron reactor technology of Beloyarsk NPP

On 11 September Beloyarsk NPP was visited by the participants of the Eurasia Economic School’s Summer program. Ural State University of Economics USUE-SINE organized this event for Russian and foreign students in order to introduce them to the history of commercial development and the peculiarities of the social and economic development of the middle Urals.

The group that visited Beloyarsk NPP included students and experts of Humbolt University of Berlin, Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences, Dresden University of Technology, RWTH Aachen University, Stralsund University of Applied Science, Mannheim University (Germany), as well as Lund University (Sweden) and several universities of Russia.

The guests visited the power unit No 3 of Beloyarsk NPP where they had a look at technology of fast neutron reactor of BN type, as well as visited the reactor central hall where they saw the fast neutron reactor BN-600.

Upon the results of the visit the head of the Information and Public Relations Department of Beloyarsk NPP Andrey Yashin noted, “Despite the fact that Germany is set to curtail a part of its nuclear power, the students of the German technical universities are interested in technologies of Rosatom; one of the most prospective, innovative and significant technologies of Rosatom is the fast neutron reactor technology.” 

The Beloyarsk NPP has come into operation in April 1964. The first power blocks of the Beloyarsk NPP with thermal reactors AMB-100 and AMB-200 has been closed after the accumulated running time. The power block with a fast industrial capacity reactor BN-600 is still on. The power block with a fact reactor BN-800Н is currently being prepared for coming into operation.
