The Rostov NPP: works on closing of pressurized zone by a dome at power unit ?4

Installers from  the Ltd. "Trust Rosspetsenergomontazh" are doing preparatory works for the installation of 185 ton dome of the pressurized zone at the power unit ?4. Previously the dome was assembled on site of pre-assembly, as well as under it was mounted a cornice part of the pressurized zone, consisting of 13 blocks with a total weight of 585 tons, for its installation. The pretensioning containment system will go through the cornice part, it provides an extra margin of safety in the pressurized zone in case of all accidents and protects the unit and the reactor unit from external influences, including aircraft crash.

Meanwhile, construction of the polar crane is being continued for the clisong of the pressurized zone by the dome in the reactor compartment. It will make able the installation of all equipment of the reactor compartment, including the reactor vessel,  which is expected to arrive at the construction site in the second quarter of 2015. So due to the movement of the crane on the circular path crane, the polar crane has the ability to perform all loading and unloading operations at any point of the reactor compartment.

The power unit ?4 of the Rostov NPP start-up is scheduled for 2017.

The Rostov nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The nuclear station is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir in 13,5 km from Volgodonsk. There are two power units with VVER-1000 reactors with an installed capacity of 1000 MWt operating at the nuclear station. The power unit No. 1 was put into commercial operation in 2001, the power unit No. 2 – in December, 2010.
