The Rosenergoatom: start-up of the 1st Leningrad NPP-2 power unit may take place before the end of 2015 - Evgeny Romanov

Energetic start (start of power) of the first power unit at the Leningrad NPP-2 * may be held until the end of 2015. This was announced by the CEO of the Concern "Rosenergoatom" Evgeny Romanov on October 29 in Moscow at the opening of the VI International Forum of Nuclear Industry "ATOMEX - 2014".

In an interview with reporters Evgeny noted that physical start of this unit is scheduled for autumn 2015. "Theoretically, if all goes well we can do a power start", - said Romanov, adding that the decision will be taken about the start-up, accounting the interests of the electricity market.

The three-day forum, organized by the State Corporation "Rosatom", this year iss attended by about 800 delegates from nearly 200 companies producing and supplying equipment for nuclear energy and industry, leading companies in the nuclear power industry of Russia and other countries, as well as representatives of public authorities and non-governmental organizations. The Forum program includes round tables, panel sessions, case presentation sessions of suppliers of equipment and services. Presentations will be made by more than 50 representatives of Russian and foreign companies.

A report on the experience of the Category Management in parts procurement of materials and equipment (material and technical resources and equipment) in the JSC Concern "Rosenergoatom" within the framework of the Forum was read by the Deputy Director General - the Director of Purchasing and Logistics Vladimir Servetnik.

He noted that the categorization (establishing and documenting the category) of materials and equipment can not only reduce the labor and time required for carrying out procurement procedures, but also to reduce the cost per unit of output.

For example, savings in procurement actuators for nuclear power plants with RBMK reactors using the principle of centralized categorization, was 44 mln Rubles; 750 kV high-voltage switches for the Smolensk, Leningrad, Kursk and Kalininskaya NPP was 358 million rubles.

"ATOMEX 2014" runs till 31 October in Hall ?1 at the "Expocentre".

* The Leningrad NPP-2 is being built beyond the NPP-2006 project of the St. Petersburg "Atomenergoproekt". The NPP-2006 is a model project of Russian nuclear power plant of new generation "3+" with improved technical and economic indicators. Project goal is the achievement of modern safety performance and reliability by optimization of the capital investments for the construction of the station. The station will be built with four power units with VVER VVER-1200 reactors, electric capacity of 1,200 megawatts each. The design life of the Leningrad NPP-2 will be 50 years. According to the Rosatom, the costs of building nuclear-2 in 2014 will amount to about 24 billion rubles.

The composition of the «Rosenergoatom Concern" includes all 10 nuclear power plants in Russia, which have the status Concern branches and enterprises, supporting companies. In total, 10 Russian nuclear power plants has 33 power units in work: 17 power units with VVER reactors (of which 11 VVER-1000 and VVER-6 440 different modifications); 15 units with RBMK reactors (11 units with RBMK-1000, with four power reactors EGP-6); 1 unit with a fast neutron reactor with sodium-cooled BN-600. The share of electricity generation by the nuclear power plants in Russia is about 17%.
