The Leningrad NPP power units operating normally

On October 24, 2014 at 12:20 pm (MSK) the turbogenerator ?5 of the third Leningrad NPP power unit was disconnected from the network by the automatic equipment action. Reasons for disabling are being investigated.

The event is inconsequential to safety and does not fall under the assessment of the International Nuclear Event Scale evaluation of INES. Background radiation in the vicinity of the stations do not exceed natural background levels.

The power unit ?2 is in a planned overhaul, the power unit ?1 and ?4 continue to operate in accordance with the dispatch schedule.

The Leningrad nuclear power plant is JSC "Rosenergoatom Concern" branch. The station is located in the city Pine Pine forest, in 80 km to the west of St. Petersburg on the bank of the Finland Gulf. The Leningrad NPP is the country's first station with RBMK-1000 reactors (uranium - graphite nuclear reactors of channel type on thermal neutrons). 4 power units by electric capacity of 1000 MWt everyone are operating on the nuclear power plant.
