Specialists from Federal Republic of Nigeria visited the Kalinin NPP

From 18 November to 20 November 2014 the Kalinin NPP was attended by the technical experts from Federal Republic of Nigeria, studying in ROSATOM-CICE&T (Obninsk) on the course «General aspects of WWER technology. Russian computer codes for safety assessment». This course has been organized under the IAEA Technical Cooperation Programme between the State Nuclear Energy Corporation "Rosatom" and the IAEA.

The program of stay in Russia for Nigerian specialists was quite extensive: it included a lecture course on safety of nuclear fuel with parallel visits to enterprises of the nuclear fuel cycle and nuclear power plants. Education in Russia has been made possible by obtaining them scholarships from the IAEA.

The Kalinin NPP was visited by the scientifiv officer of Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission Mr. Ayodeji Adebisi Ala and regulatory officer of Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority Mr. Raluchukwu Chidume Nduka.

The main purpose of the visit was to participate in the training unit of the KNPP on the "reactor and turbine part of NPP with WWER-type reactor" with using of the full-scope simulator. During the visit, Nigerian participants visited the existing Nuclear Power Plant unit.

"Nigerian specialists will be familiarized with the peculiarities of operation of Russian NPPs, manufacturing technology, that Nigeria intends to use in the NPP construction on their territory. Specialists from Egypt and Vietnam have already been trained at the KNPP in the framework of similar programs."- said the deputy chief of the STP Vyacheslav Efryushkin.

According to the visitors of the Kalinin NPP - specialists from Nigeria – currently, Nigeria has real plans to develop nuclear infrastructure, that’s why it is very important for them to obtain the necessary information and invaluable experience of Russian experts. They also noted the high level of Russian nuclear technologies.

The Kalinin NPP is a branch of JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". NPP is located in the north of the Tver region near the Udomlya city. Kalinin NPP has 4 operational units with pressurized water reactors (WWER-1000) with installed capacity of 1000 MW each.
