Murmansk Region Governor held a meeting at Kola NPP

Stability of the nuclear power facilities on Kola Peninsula and quality of their service do not raise any doubts. Murmansk Region Governor Dmitry Dmitriyenko reported about it at the meeting concerning radiation safety issues on Kola Peninsula and measures taken on reliable operation of the nuclear power facilities, which was held at Kola NPP on March 31.

Regional Duma Chairman Evgeny Nikora, representatives of Atomflot Federal State Unitary Enterprise, Senior Service, Kola Institute of Russian Academy of Science, Russian Emergency Ministry, State Institution Murmansk Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Management took part in this meeting. Representatives of RosGidroMed, EMERCOM and Kola NPP made their reports at the meeting.

Itinerary of the visit, in the course of which the delegation members headed by the Region Governor could become personally certain in the polar region NPP safety and reliability, included visiting NPP Information Center, where Dmitry Dmitriyenko had a talk with Apatity City students.

Then, the delegates visited NPP Turbine Island, where scheduled preventive maintenance of power unit No 3 was being performed at the moment and the stator of turbine generator No. 5 was being replaced. The governor talked with specialists of Kola NPP and contracting organizations, having noted a high quality of professional atomists training.

Kola NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located 200 km to the south of Murmansk on the bank of Lake Imandra. Power unit No.1 of Kola NPP was commissioned in 1973. Currently, the plant operates 4 power units with VVER-type reactors. Each reactor has capacity of 440 mW. Kola NPP supplies power for Murmansk region and Karelia.
