Moscow Pupils Visited Kalinin NPP

On March 24, 2011 as a part of the public inspections program carried out at nuclear power plants by the decision of Rosatom State Corporation, representatives and students of the State Budget Educational Institution of Moscow Education Centre No. 2006 visited Kalinin NPP.

The visitors looked over the operating nuclear plant power units, met with plant specialists, who told them about basic principles of reactor chamber and turbine set operation, security systems in detail and demonstrated power units control rooms.

"I think that visiting this place, getting complete information from experts, going round the workshops is very important not only for students but also for their parents" - Deputy Director of the Experimental Work Center , physics teacher Peter Novikov said after visiting the NPP.

"On the whole the excursion impressed me greatly. When I am back I will tell my friends that the nuclear power plant - is an absolutely safe production unit", - Daniil Zolotnik, the 8th form pupil, shared his view.

"We were always open for dialogue with all ranks of people - whether they are students or retirees, or tourists, actively visiting us from different cities of Russia, - Kalinin NPP Chief Engineer Mikhail Kanyshev commented out. - In future we are ready to meet, ready to discuss and answer any questions interesting for the public."

The policy of openness is one of the priorities of Rosatom State Corporation information activity. Thus, more than 10 thousand of various population representatives and specialists visited Kalinin NPP last year.

Kalinin NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is situated in the north of Tver region in Udomlya district. Kalinin nuclear power plant comprises three operating power units with pressurized water reactors (VVER-1000) of 1,000 mW capacity each. Power unit No. 4 is under construction now and is to be commissioned in 2011.
