Kursk NPP: turbogenerator ? 6 is switched off from the grid

On May 5, 2011 at 03:30 turbogenerator ? 6 (TG-6) of power unit ? 3 of the Kursk NPP is switched off from the grid because of malfunction in the generator excitation system.

TG-6 It is under repair, after elimination of malfunction it will be switched on to the grid.


The given event is preliminary classified as zero level (out of the scale) under the International Nuclear Events Scale (INES), that is, it is not essential to the safety of the NPP and the personnel.

There are no violations of limits and conditions of safe operation, radiation consequences are not available.

The radiation background at Kursk NPP and in the area of its location corresponds to the normal operation of power units does not exceed the natural background values. 


At present Kursk NPP operates power units Nos. 1,3 and 4. Their capacity corresponds to the dispatch schedule. Power unit No.2 has been under scheduled maintenance repair since April 22, 2011.
