Kursk NPP: turbine generator No. 6 has been connected to the grid

On May 5, 2011, at 05:19 p.m. turbine generator No. 6 (TG-6) of Kursk NPP power unit No.3 was connected to the grid. The commissioning was performed due to the requirements of safe operation technological regulations.

At present, Kursk NPP operates power units Nos. 1, 3 and 4. They are working at the capacity corresponding to the dispatch schedule. Since April 22 power unit No. 2 has been under scheduled major repair. The repair works are carried out according to the dispatch schedule.

The radiation background at the nuclear plant and in the adjacent territory is not changed. It corresponds to the normal operation of power units and does not exceed the natural environmental values.

Kursk NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located on the left bank of the Seym River, 40 kilometers to the south-west of Kursk city. The NPP operates four power units with pressurized-tube reactors with total capacity of 4 million KW. The power units were connected to the united energy system of the country in 1976-1985. Kursk NPP is the largest power generating source in the Central Black Earth Belt.
