Kurchatov teachers visited Kursk NPP within the framework of the open public inspections

On March 24, 2011, teachers of Kurchatov City educational institutions visited Kursk NPP within the framework of open public inspections currently being held at the operating nuclear power plants of Russia (branches of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC).

Management of Rosatom State Corporation organized those events which had been successfully held in some NPP satellite cities in order to show the high level of safety and reliability of modern Russian power units to representatives of the public and mass media.

The inspection in the form of a public tour was started with a Тround tableУ in Public Information Center of Kursk NPP, where Larisa Evdokimova, an extended education teacher of Albatros ChildrenХs and TeenagersХ Center, made a presentation on the topic of ТEnvironmental Culture as One of the Determinant Factors in Solving the Socially Significant TasksУ. The environmental actions conducted by Kursk NPP are certainly needed for the city and younger generation as well as the public tours to production unit where one can see the whole process of power generation with his or her own eyes. Openness and readiness to a dialogue are the indicators of serious enterpriseХs success, - Larisa Evdokimova noted.

The tour participants visited Kursk NPP, namely, its central hall, Turbine Island, unit control room, and radiation control board. Senior Shift Head Vasily Zubov told the teachers about the plant operation and answered various questions asked by the representatives of the educational institutions.

Igor Nikitin, a geography teacher of secondary general education school No. 6, expressed the common opinion of the public tour participants: ТWe have visited Kursk nuclear power plant for the first time and have seen how the process of electric power generation is going on. ItХs a large-scale, complex and at the same time interesting production process managed by the committed plant employees. The questions and doubts we had have dropped away and now we are absolutely sure that Kursk NPP is a safe, reliable, and modern enterpriseУ.

Similar public inspections of Kursk NPP with participation of the inhabitants of nuclear plant location area and mass media will go on.

At present Kursk NPP operates power units Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 4. Their capacity corresponds to the dispatch schedule.

The radiation background at Kursk NPP and in the area of its location corresponds to the normal operation of power units does not exceed the natural background values.
