Kola NPP: Days of Lappish culture

On March 4, 2011 master classes of national craft were held in Kola NPP Information Centre within the framework of the Lappish Culture Days.

Craftsmen of district National Cultural Centre from Lovozero village opened transpolar nuclear city residents the secrets of manufacture of female pendants, periapt dolls and ТUpryazhkaУ national toy (ТTeamУ) and Lappish ornaments sketches. Children from kindergartens and schools as well as Kola NPP employees and veterans with interest watched the work of masters and tried to make their own Lappish souvenirs.

At the same time a ТFairУ was held at the ChildrenХs Art School. Exquisite deer fur trimmings, works made of deer bones and beaded items of national dress were presented to the city residents.

According to Head of Kola NPP Public Information Centre Viktoria Nigorenko, the Lappish Culture Days have already become a fine tradition of cooperation between the plant and Lovozero National Cultural Centre. ТEvery year hundreds of citizens gladly visit activities, held by Information Centre specialists within the Lappish Culture Days,У she said.

The Lappish Culture Days are continued: lectures on the life and culture of a mysterious and amazing nation Р the Lapps - will be held in the Information Centre throughout the week.

Kola NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located 200 km to the south of Murmansk on the bank of Lake Imandra. Power unit No.1 of Kola NPP was commissioned in 1973. Currently, the plant operates 4 power units with VVER-type reactors. Each reactor has capacity of 440 MW. Kola NPP supplies power for Murmansk region and Karelia.
