Delegation of the Chukotka Autonomous District Government and Duma has visited Bilibino NPP.

On March 10, 2011, the Delegation of the Chukotka Autonomous District Government and district Duma headed by Roman Kopin, the governor, and Andrey Gorodilov, Duma First Deputy Chairman, visited Bilibino NPP.

Larisa Ponomareva, a representative of the Chukotka Autonomous District in the Federation Council, Leonid Nikolayev, the head of municipal entity of Bilibino district, and a number of other civil officers were included into the working group.

The meeting with the representatives of legislative and executive branch and the nuclear plant workers was held under the chairmanship of Farit Tukhvetov, Bilibino NPP Director.

In the course of the meeting, the social issues, operation of housing utilities infrastructure, communication and transport operation, the problem of mail delivery to the settlement, prices for the staple foods as well as mass sports development and work of the cultural institutions were discussed in detail.

Within the district development discussion, Andrey Gorodilov reported on the exploration works held in 2009-2010 at the large copper field called ТPeschankaУ. In the future, we see development of a new mining complex on the basis of Baim Zone fields, first of all, ТPeschankaУ. Commissioning of the mining enterprise is expected in the end of 2024.

Peschanoe field is 250 km far from Bilibino; that is why for covering its technologic loads the construction of VL-110 kW Bilibino-Peschanoe is required. In the next two years the commissioning of large mine fields of gold and silver is planned, that would provide stability in precious metals extraction and will allow the district remain one of the leaders of gold extraction industry.

Andrey Gorodilov underlined the direct connection between development of new ore fields in Bilibino district and further operation of Bilibino NPP, and, thus, future of the nuclear power industry employees.

Bilibino NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located next to Bilibino city, in the Chukotka Autonomous District. Bilibino NPP operates four EGP-6 uranium-graphite pressurized tube reactors. Each reactor has capacity of 12MW (el.). The first power unit was commissioned in 1973, the second Р in 1974, the third Р in 1975, and the fourth one Р in 1976. The plant produces about 75% of energy generated in Chaun-Bilibino isolated electricity system (upon that the system takes about 40% of energy consumed in the Chukotka Autonomous District).
